Absolutely Essential iPad Apps For Newbies | Part 2

If you are a new iPad owner and you want to know exactly which apps to get and explore then we have the list right here just for you.  This is part 2 in our series on essential iPad apps for new iPad owners.  If you missed part 1, you can read that right here.  Now we move on to part 2 of our series of essential apps for new iPad owners.

Absolutely Essential iPad Apps For Newbies

So you are a new iPad owner and you want to know exactly what apps you should get.  Sounds reasonable since there are over 70,000 of them to choose from.  We did a series of apps for business owners and general use.  These ones would be an extension of those available for the general user and are absolutely essential to get the most out of your iPad.

Flipboard

The first essential iPad app for newbies is Flipboard.  This is a great app to have because the iPad is primarily used for consumption.  Flipboard offers up a really good experience if you us social media.  The way it works is that you build your own customized magazine out of content from your RSS feeds, Twitter streams, Facebook, and Flickr accounts.  Once this is all done then you can flip through the app like a nicely laid out magazine made just for you. Flipboard is a free app.

Instapaper

The next essential iPad app for newbies is Instapaper.  This is an app you will get and not want to stop using.  It is one of the best ways I know of to store articles that you want to read for later.  Best of all, you can store articles that you want to read and do so offline.   As you are reading an article, you can share it with others via several options and the online portal lets you categories your articles into folders.  Another really great feature is the integration within apps and browsers.  There are plugins for Firefox and options built right into apps that let you save whatever you are reading directly to your free Instapaper account. Instapaper is $4.99 but well worth it.

Marvel Comics

Whether you like comics or not this is an amazing app to check out.  If you are a fan of comics, then you absolutely want to give this a try as it presents comics in full color with amazing graphics that pop right out of the screen.  It’s like reading a comic but you don’t have to worry about tearing those thin pages and storing them certainly takes up less room. Marvel Comics is a free app but you do have to pay for the comics and some are free.

Bento For iPad

Bento for iPad

I’m not a huge user of database apps but if you really want to see the power of a personal organizer right on your iPad then you absolutely want to check out this essential iPad app called Bento.  Bento is a personal organizer that helps you manage everything from contacts, events, and to-do items to special activities such as exercise and diet plans. Bento for iPad is from Filemaker and it is $4.99.

ArtRage

ArtRage For iPad

This is definitely an essential iPad app for newbies.  ArtRage is a painting simulation app that keeps track of the amount of paint on the canvas, watercolors reacting to the wetness of the brush, blending colors, and whole slew of other features which makes it seem like you are literally painting right on a canvas. ArtRage is $6.99 and definitely a great one to explore especially if you are new to the iPad.

Epicurious

Epicurious for iPad

There are not that many lists which do not include this amazing iPad app.  Epicurious is an essential iPad app for the newbie since it shows off more than 30,000 recipes from magazines, chefs, and cookbooks.  The best part is that if you get an iPad stand then it’s the perfect companion in the kitchen while you are trying out some of these recipes. Epicurious is free and definitely one you will keep.

Netflix

Netflix For iPad

Like to watch movies and TV?  Why not watch everything right on your iPad whenever and wherever you want to?  Netflix is an absolutely essential iPad app because it shows off the true beauty of a consumption device like the iPad. For $7.99/month you can stream movies and select TV shows over Wi-Fi and even 3G.  This app is hard not to get addicted to but the best part is that you can take it anywhere you go and it really does look amazing right on the iPad’s 10″ screen. Netflix is a free app but you pay for the monthly service.
