The UK’s Biggest And Most Popular Family Tracing Website Has Its Own App

Ancestry for iPad : If you have any interest in genealogy or you’ve ever made any effort to trace your family tree then the chances are you’ll have come across ancestry.co.uk at some point.

It’s the top website in the UK for tracing family histories with a database featuring a massive 870 million UK family history records. These include everything from birth and death certificates, telephone directories, passenger details, parish records, military records and more. It also contains a hugely comprehensive archive of censuses from all over the British Isles dating from 1841 to 1901. The phone books go back as far as 1880 and as recently as 1984. They have lists of passengers entering the UK from 1870 up to 1960 and a wealth of other records and resources going back to the 1300s!

Ancestry.co.uk part of wider group of websites around the world with local versions in the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, China, France, Italy and Sweden. Altogether that adds up to an incredible 6 billion family history records and 20 million family trees created by members worldwide.

If you’re interested in tracing your family tree but haven’t used Ancestry then that should be enough to convince you to do so. If you’re are a registered user already then this app enables you to carry your tree with you and edit it wherever you happen to be. You never know when you might stumble across interesting new information. Alternatively you might just want to show it to people.

You can search your tree by name or browse the tree using the attractive and intuitively presented interface. You can also take photographs and upload them directly from the app, whether they be people, places or things.

The best thing about this app is that its completely free which makes it an absolute no brainer for anyone with an Ancestry account already. Better still it’s actually easier to use than the existing website. If you’ve tried it in the past and been put off by the interface then perhaps the time has to come give it another go.

Tracing your family and finding and learning about the lives of people connected to you in the past can be a fascinating, addictive and hugely rewarding pastime. The Ancestry website is already firmly established as the first port of call online for people looking to trace their families and this app just makes it even easier. An essential download for genealogy enthusiasts.
