A remake of a classic shoot-up-up racer

Death Rally for iPad : Developed by Remedy Entertainment, Death Rally is a modern re-make of the company’s first ever title, originally released in 1996. It tasks you with controlling a gun-toting car from a top-down view. Vehicles come with two weapons, the first a standard machine gun, and the second an optional upgrade with weapons that include shotguns, a rocket launcher and a Gatling gun. Controls take the form of two virtual sticks, one for steering, and the other for firing your weapons. It’s not possible to control the acceleration, nor can you reverse it, but it’s not an issue due to the arcade-heavy gameplay. Five tracks are included, which can be played in mirror and reverse modes, adding to the variety. The game focuses heavily on upgrading your car with extra speed, better handling, extra armour and of course, weapons. You gain upgrade points by winning races and blasting apart fellow drivers, so the game soon becomes an addictive race to upgrade cars to cause evermore destruction.

This really is one of the most polished racers in the App Store, and with more content promised in future updates, is certainly worth a download and your time.
