Life isn’t always fun. Sometimes you have to work or complete tasks, and that is where productivity apps come into their own, often making these times less intrusive and dull.
The Essential iPad App are those that save you stress and worry. It may be that you need to make some quick amendments to a word-processing document while you are on the move, or you may want to jot down an idea or thought, visually sketching it and making annotations. Or you may be looking to produce a good-looking presentation for the boss while sitting on the train, then save it to the cloud to work on when you get back to your desk.
There are essential iPad apps to help you do all of these things and so much more, making you better organized and easing some of the most time-zapping tasks, ultimately giving you more free time.
Atomic Web Browser For iPad
Safari has long been a poor relation among web browsers, but many believe it’s the only one they can use on the iPad. Not so. Download Atomic. Not only is it lightning fast, but it also taps into some of the most popular online activities with Facebook and Twitter integration. Webpages fill the entire screen, and you can use tab browsing. The browser supports AirPrint, and downloaded files can be shared, and you can block ads and save webpages for offline viewing.
GoDocs For iPad
As the iPad lets you sync email accounts from multiple service providers, it makes sense that Google Mail users can have access to Google Docs as well. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Enter GoDocs, a handy app that gives you direct, secure access to your Google Docs at speed. From the top menu, you can browse your documents, open them, edit them, and save them on the cloud. It’s an expansive toolset that gives you 100 percent of the features you would expect from Google Docs online.
Calculator Pro
For some reason, Apple did not include a calculator with the iPad. Welcome, then, Calculator Pro, an excellent calc that also includes advanced functions. It’s a good looking app that works incredibly well – to get the scientific mode, you simply tilt the iPad. There are memory buttons, and if you tap in the wrong number, you simply swipe to delete the digits. There are skins available to customize, but you have to pay extra.
Dropbox
There are some apps we couldn’t live without, and Dropbox is one of them, letting you store your files online. It’s free, and as long as you don’t use more than 2GB of storage, you won’t have to pay a penny. The idea is you install Dropbox on your PC or Mac, and place files within the folder. They will then be accessible on your iPad, and vice versa. Dropbox supports all manner of files including PDFs.
Pages For iPad
Considering the price, Pages for iPad is nothing less than amazing. You’re getting a fully featured word processor that doubles up as a flexible desktop publishing package (indeed, attempts have been made – rather successfully – to lay out magazine pages using it). You are able to use a host of paragraph and character styles, align text and apply custom fonts. Images can be moved, re-sized and rotated. Documents can be emailed or shared via iTunes, and you can, of course, print too. All in all, it’s a must-have app.
iTranslate For iPad
Although the translations are not always spot on, and take a little bit of deciphering, using iTranslate for iPad to make sense of a piece of foreign prose is still nifty. Copy and paste text into the main box, tell the app which languages you are using, and the translation is quickly made.
Documents To Go
Documents To Go is two things in one an office suite which allows for editing, and a file repository. You can change documents, and save them to the cloud. The app works with Microsoft Office files (wether it be Word, PowerPoint or Excel), and also works perfectly with iWork files.
iCurrency For iPad
This is one powerful app, and all the more remarkable for being free. By tapping record and speaking, an uncannily accurate transcription is produced that can be edited. The result can be emailed or sent and are saved for future reference.
Dragon Dictation
This is one powerful app, and all the more remarkable for being free. By tapping record and speaking, an uncannily accurate transcription is produced that can be edited. The result can be emailed or sent and are saved for future reference.
Awesome Note For iPad
If, like us, you tend to find your sticky notes are flung across your desk, then Awsome Note for iPad is well worth the asking price. It lets you produce color-coded notes that are placed within folders ranging from ideas, travel and shopping to work, study and to-do lists. Adding notes is easy; tap the + button, and you can view all notes at a glance, viewing them in a variety of ways, including date order. With Evernote and Google Docs syncing, it really is awesome.
