Facebook and Skype backed by Microsoft and the launch of Windows 8 by Microsoft in the very near future is about to turn the world of VOIP upside down as they take on iTunes and Apple’s iOS. Business phone systems based on VOIP will be under serious threat. This means we can all expect a lot of competition and much better services and features with VOIP in the very near future.
Business phone systems built on VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) are essential for business communications. Facebook is about to create a huge rift in the market. Word is already out they are developing a HTML5 based application that will run directly on the new Windows 8 operating system. This is a big shift in the way social media, VOIP and operating systems of the future will operate. The age-old war between Apple and Windows is heating up, and it is dragging many other business operations along for the battle. Here is a look at some of the core issues.
- Microsoft Skype. Microsoft bought Skype and there are rumours the new Windows 8 will incorporate Skype in some way into the new operating system. Skype has already released the newest version of Skype that has Facebook built into the application. There are rumours Skype is creating an HTML5 based application that will operate directly on the Windows operating system when it is released. HTML5 applications will all work on the new operating system, and they will also be modified to work on Apple’s Safari.
- Project Spartan. Facebook is apparently in the midst of a project code-named Project Spartan. Facebook is currently developing an entirely HTML5 based application that will also operate on the Windows 8 operating system much like an independent application – this is one of the exciting features of the new Windows 8 OS. They too are planning on creating a version to work on Apple’s Safari, an this means users will be able to completely circumvent the iTunes store. The goal of this project is to attack the market held independently by Apple with the iOS and related devices (iPhone and iPad).
- Business VOIP. With just about every business computer running windows, and the coming release of a new operating system that is built by Microsoft, who is the main investor of Facebook and now owns Skype, we can expect many businesses to see immediate VOIP solutions on their computer’s desktop and therefore, less of a need for VOIP technologies. The partnership between Skype and Facebook means other VOIP applications will be shut out of the largest social media site in the world, and that site, along with Skype will attack Apple’s hold on the iOS market. Providers of VOIP business phone systems are indirectly coming under attack because of the battle between Microsoft and Apple. At the same time, Facebook is integrating Skype, and developing an application that will penetrate Apple’s Safari browser.
VOIP technology as it has been will soon not be enough. VOIP technologies will need to incorporate social media, which, in essence, is led by Facebook, which has already partnered with Skype. This means other VOIP applications will not have the same access to Facebook as Skype and those other applications could become outdated because they do not have these features. We are seeing VOIP technologies and social media going cloud at the same time Windows is about to launch its new OS onto every business computer in the world. As consumers, we can all look forward to some exciting corporate wars in the very near future, and you should expect the levels of technology and integration of social media and VOIP to lead the way.

So mamy words; so little thought.
Yes. This makes way too many assumptions that are simply incorrect.
Seems like those two who made comments here have little to say but negativity, but it is great to read a post that talks about the future and what might happen… rare, in the world of repeats. I would like to see what their predictions are?
I think this guy has a few points… and like Augustina above, at least it is talking about the future… those complaining pussies at the top should write something decent themselves.
