Fix Frozen iPad Video Apps

Have you ever had iPad video app just freeze?  You launch it and nothing happens or it starts to play but then it freezes?  This can happen from time to time and you might think something is wrong with your iPad or with the app but video is one of those things that can have behavioral issues.  If you experience freezing video, here are some ways to fix it.

Fixing Frozen iPad Video Apps

There are two ways to potentially fix this issue.  The first way involves restarting the app and the second way goes a little bit further.  Here’s the two solutions.

Solution #1

If you have an iPad video app freezing (or any app for that matter) you can always start off by restarting it.  To restart an app, do the following:

  • Double-click the home button to bring up the springboard (with the running apps below it)
  • Find the app that is having issues and hold down on it until it shakes and has a little red “minus” sign
  • Tap the red minus sign and the app will now be restarted

springboard

Relaunch your video app and see if the freezing returns or if it has stopped.  If it does return then you can try this next solution.

Solution #2

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on General
  • Tap Reset
  • Then Reset Settings

This will take about 60 seconds and the only thing you might lose is your WiFi password (just re-enter it).  Basically, you are resetting all your networking/settings as this has been found to be a major cause of “iPad video apps freezing” for no apparent reason.

Hopefully that will help out and feel free to try this even if it isn’t an iPad video app.

I’ve suddenly found that I can’t upload videos from YouTube to Facebook. I only get the option to share Via eamil on the YouTube app, but if I open YouTube in Safari, up until recently I could share on Facebook. Now after I click on the option to share on Facebook, the page comes up displaying the thumbnail of the video, but ‘post to profile’ is greyed out, and a progress bar endlessly scrolls above the thumbnail. Obviously, clicking on the greyed out post to profile button gets no response.

      Hi Alex,

Yeah I noticed this as well and my guess is that both Youtube and Facebook are switching over to mobile versions and HTML 5…which as I’ve been noticing on more than a few sites is causing some very odd behavior such as you describe….

      • Alex Pace says:

Thank you! Ok so with any luck, all will be well. Hope so because it is a bit frustrating as I had just made and posted a video on YouTube on my ipad using the free ‘Splice’ app which worked pretty well, and wanted to share it! I hope it’s just a matter of waiting then. Please let me know if you hear it’s anything else! Thanks again for your reply. :)

          Hi Alex

I had a question. Does this happen in the YouTube app on the iPad or on the YouTube website?

          • Alex Pace says:

Hi, it’s on the website. That was the only place from which i even had the option. The app doesn’t allow me to do anything other than email by default. Clicking on ‘share’ on the app has always only immediately opened an email with a link, and no option to post the video itself on Facebook or elsewhere which seems pretty odd to me.

            • Shane says:

Interesting…the only think I can even remotely think is that they took that option away…but here is a test…if you have a mac and safari, perhaps you can check it from there and see if it’s just simply the iPad’s fault :-)

              • Alex Pace says:

Thanks.. Hm no. Embarrassingly I am exclusively using the iPad these days as my mac is old and dead but could check on someone else’s. The only thing is I’m sure it is fine on any other computer. I thought you were maybe saying they were doing something about the mobile versions which might be the reason. I am no technohead so if this conversation gets technical my techless head wont stay above water! Maybe I should try to ask YouTube… Do they have humans to speak to I wonder? I sometimes feel these things must be run by robots :)
Could it otherwise simply be a memory issue I wonder?

                • Shane says:

I totally understand Alex! We won’t get much more technical that this…I do have to wonder if it really is just the mobile vs. non-mobile issue but asking a human on youtube may not happen because it truly is as you say very “robotic”

                  • Alex Pace says:

Thank you! Well, I’d be interested to know if anyone else is having problems and you said you had found some websites not functioning normally so I’m hoping if it isn’t just me that the problem will be resolved by the YouTube robots forthwith! :) thanks again

If your Video App simply goes black and refuses to work, you can also just search Spotlight for one of your videos. Select one, and it works.

I had for days a problem where my facebook started to blink & all i got was a white blank page & did not opened my FB,
So I fixed the blinking FB icon, this is what I did,
    1: delete FB from IPad,
2: now go to APP store & write free FB & install it again from APP store
3:then when download is finished go back to APP store
4: & now press update your FB, instead of installing.
Wait & when finished, your FB will work again on your iPad!! Yeahhh!!!
I hope I can help someone with this information because it took me days to figure it out!!!! :-)
