There are increasing reports that people are having problems with Bluetooth after their iOS 4.2 upgrade. Here are the issues that users are seeing with Bluetooth and some ways to alleviate the Bluetooth “pain”.
iOS 4.2.1 iPad Bluetooth Problems
Have you recently upgraded your iPad to iOS 4.2 and experienced any Bluetooth issues such as your iPad not recognizing your Bluetooth device? This is occurring for some folks out there and here are some ways to troubleshoot the issues.
First of all, try deleting the device that you are trying to pair with from the iPad. You can do this in the Bluetooth settings where it will list all of the devices that it previously was able to pair up with. Deleting it will mean that you need to re-pair (not repair) it with the iPad but chances are this might just get the two talking again.
Here is a fix that might sound odd but it worked for several people. When you are trying to pair and it will not work, simply tap your iPad or iPhone on the device you are pairing with and it might cause the iPad to display the PIN menu. Normally you can just enter “1-2-3-4″ and it will fix the issue of the two not talking.
Beyond these two minor suggestions, most of the time it’s just simply deleting the devices profiles from each other and then re-pairing. In order to see your Bluetooth device profiles go to Settings > General > Bluetooth and then you will see the devices listed. You can delete the one that is not pairing from here.
Also, it seems elementary but sometimes turning off Bluetooth and turning it back on might kickstart things into pairing again.
Have you had Bluetooth problems since upgrading to iOS 4.2? What did you do to fix them?

Since upgrading to 4.2.1 my iPad connection to my late 2010 Toyota Prius III has stopped and likewise separately my Nokia BH-905 headphones !
I am gutted. I have tried your suggestions without success. According to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3253 Apple are suggesting my devices, without being specific, one being a GBP 26,000 Toyota car are now not up to latest Bluetooth Protocols.
I feel cheated by Apple and hope that others reading this will think twice about iPad if they want to link to an expensive accessory !
I’ve had major problems on my iPhone. It just cuts out randomly. Very irritating…..
Yeah and lets hope that iOS 4.3 solves this minor glitch which is increasingly annoying a lot of people!
The problem with my iPad is that it can’t successfully search for any Bluetooth medium. This more evident as the Bluetooth icon at the right top of the pad appears faint. I av tried almost the listed trials without success. Could it be it’s a problem abinitio? Help required.
