Backup And Sync Your Data
Before you update your iOS device, it is a good idea to make a backup and sync all of your data. Connect your device to your PC or MAC using the USB data cable and open iTunes. In the left hand column, right click on your device and select Back Up from the menu. Wait for the back up to complete.
Start The Update Process
To start the update process, select your device from the left hand column and on the screen that opens, under the Version heading, you will see an Update button. Click this to begin the update.
Check For Updates
If you haven’t set iTunes to automatically check for updates, you will see a message asking you if you want to manually check now. You can change this setting in Preferences later if you wish.
Check Your Data Is Safe
If you didn’t sync you’ device before starting the update process, you will then be asked if you wish to do it now. Syncing stores all of the data (music, apps, files, etc) in the iTunes library, so If the update fails to complete for any reason, your data is safe.
Continue With The Update
Now that your data is safe, you can continue with the update.
You will be shown information about the latest update, including all new features it adds and any bug fixes it will apply to your device, This screen will also show which devices are compatible with the current update.
The next thing you will need to do is agree with the Software License Agreement
Wait For The Update
You will now need to wait for the update to download onto your device. The time this can take will vary, so go and make a cup of coffee and check back in 30 minutes.
Don’t disconnect your USB cable during the update. It is also a good idea not to use your computer for anything else while the update process is under way. Your device may disconnect and reconnect itself whilst updating, so don’t worry if you see disconnect pop-ups.
Check Which Version is Installed
When the process is complete, you can check to see which version is installed by selecting your device from the left hand column and clicking on Summary. The software version will be shown near the top of the screen.
While the actual update process is installing your device connect and disconnect itself.
When the update is done, under Summary you’ll see Software Version 4.3.
That’s all there is to it! The process is simple, you just need to be patient while the entire process completes. Now you can enjoy the new updates on your iPad.
Restore from Back Up
If anything goes wrong (don’t worry, it rarely does), you can restore your device to its previous state easily. Plug in your device and right click on it in the left hand column of iTunes. Choose Restore from Back Up and follow the steps detailed.
