Twitter apps for the iPad are one of the first things an iPad owner typically wants to install. These apps are located in the Social Networking category of the App Store and range from free up to $4.99 (at the time of this writing). While there are many Twitter apps for the iPad, there are 3 that stand out among the others. Here we review them and show how they work (or don’t work). Read on before you spend that hard-earned cash on your next app.
In general, these apps all work to achieve the same goal: Connect you to your Twitter account(s) and allow you to interact with the popular Internet service. The difference, however, among them can be pretty amazing. Some are more user friendly and some just plain do a better job at showing you what you need to see since there are many types of things you can view on Twitter such as Lists, Mentions, Direct Messages, and of course your main feeds. With that in mind, enjoy our iPad Twitter App Reviews of Osfoora, Tweetdeck, and Twittelator.

Osfoora is one of the newest Twitter clients apps for the iPad. It is easy to use and it has a nice set of features. Like the other apps this one shows tweets from who you are following, your mentions, and your private messages. With osfoora you can have multiple accounts configured and show all your lists as well.
One of the really nice features of osfoora is the Nearby feature. This feature opens up a map and shows you any of your twitter users that are in proximity. You can zoom in or out to see people who are close or far away.
I think osfoora is a great app for the iPad except that it does not show your timeline, mentions and messages in columns. I have come to like seeing my information all in one screen without having to select each item. For some, this isn’t that big of an issue, but if you really want to see ALL your items on one screen then osfoora might not be the best choice for you.

Twittelator is another favorite client among many iPad users. It presents your tweets in a completely different interface than the others. It almost appears to be floating on your homescreen. As with osfoora, you choose which of your message types to see (messages, @replies, DM’s, lists). It does not display all of these types in a column-type layout. Here are a few notable things I really liked about this app:
- Seeing images directly in the tweet
- Customizable wallpapers
- Seeing nearby twitter users
- The drafts feature
Twittelator is a top-notch Twitter client for sure. The only complaint I had was the lack of support for multiple columns but otherwise, it is full of useful features I use each time I launch it.

Tweetdeck is and continues to be my favorite Twitter client app. I use it on my desktop, laptop, iPad and iPhone. Perhaps it’s the consistency across multiple devices that causes me to like it so much. Actually, the one thing I love the most about Tweetdeck is the support for multiple columns. You can see your messages, @replies, DM’s and lists in columns. If you are viewing more than 3 columns, you just swipe to get the rest! While not as new as the other Twitter client apps, Tweetdeck holds it’s own when it comes to functionality. Here are my top favorites about Tweetdeck:
- Multiple columns
- Geotagging Tweets
- Shorten URL’s
- Adding photos
- Multiple ways to quickly share tweets
- Same interface on multiple devices
- Free
The one thing I do not like about the iPad version is that you can’t tap on a user’s name and see their specific profile information. This is good to see sometimes and with the desktop/laptop versions you CAN do this.
My Top Pick
By now, it’s probably not a stretch to say that I still favor TweetDeck. For one thing, it’s Free (without ads). I also like the columns and I like the fact that it’s the same (with the exception of the profile viewing) on all the devices I use. Consistency can be a good thing when you are multi-tasking like crazy! The other apps are just fine as well, but if I had to pick one that I would put back time and time again, it would be Tweetdeck for now.

My problem with Tweetdeck for iPad was that links in tweets weren't active. Was it just me? That was a dealbreaker. Using Oosfora.

You do have a point here! I need to mention that and will update my post. It still is not working on the iPad/iPhone version for links! Thanks for bringing that up.
Never heard of Osfoora of Twittelator, but Tweetdeck on the iPad sucks. I don't know how you can possibly recommend it. There was a huge thread on the Tweetdeck discussion forum about how lousy iPad support was, but Tweetdeck have deleted it. It's a shame. It was my favorite client on the iPhone and desktop.
Hey Nigel,
I was kind of recommending all three – - but I just pointed out that I personally still use Tweetdeck. The only reason I do use it, is because of the support for columns. I haven't found another client yet that supports that feature, but, i agree with you – when company takes down a thread, that's a shame! which one do you use?
