Jam away with iStomp – and not a dustbin lid in sight
iStomp For iPhone : While the iStomp looks ‘ like a standard guitar effects pedal, it has the ability to change the effect it produces entirely, by hooking it up to your iOS device and downloading a new pedal. So instead of buying a whole raft of dedicated effects pedals, you only need to buy one, which can perform a multitude of functions. Unlike other iOS guitar add-ons we’ve looked at before, the iStomp doesn’t use your iOS device as the amplifier. Instead, it’s designed to be used as part of a conventional guitar and amplifier setup, so you’ll already need to have a guitar amp before you can make use of it.
You connect your iOS device using a 30-pin dock connector, and choose an effects pedal from your library in the free Stomp Shop app. Redline Overdrive and Total Recall Delay are included for free. That might sound expensive for an in-app purchase, but remember that a real effects pedal would set you back.
Once you’ve chosen your effect, it takes about 30 seconds for it to download to the iStomp, after which, if you like, you can unplug your iOS device. With effects this cheap, we thought they might sound a little gimmicky, but upon hearing the amplifier, we were genuinely impressed by how good our guitar sounded. While it may be outside many people’s budget, it’s a great idea that means have a lot more fun with your guitar and your iPhone.
