What iPad Apps Made The Hall Of Fame?

There is an app hall of fame brewing up and we wanted to show you the very first inductees.  Several of the apps named were obvious but a few of them weren’t so obvious.  We wanted to show you the first apps to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for must have iPad apps.  Ready for the inductees?

The iPad App Hall Of Fame

It seems like only yesterday that we got to see the very first iPad apps. Wait. It was only last April when the iPad was launched but here we are with a Hall Of Fame.  Technology moves fast.  So what makes an app get inducted into the hall of fame? What makes it a must have iPad app?  Well no one can really say for sure but these are those apps which become indispensable.  You use them for work, play, learning, or consuming.  Either way, these are the apps which stick with you like glue.

Angry Birds HD ($4.99)

Is this any surprise?  Angry Birds made the list of must have iPad apps because of the great story, very frequent updates and a rather addictive game play.  It’s one of those things you simply cannot duplicate.  The idea is simple: you sling birds (which are angry) at little green pigs who stole their eggs.

Now while this sounds juvenile and simple it is actually very challenging and captivating. Which is probably why it has been downloaded well over 6.5 million times.  And there is even talk of an Angry Birds Movie!

Flight Control HD ($4.99)

Here is another app that is not only  must have iPad app but it is definitely worthy of the Hall Of Fame.  Why? Because the developers were able to take a complex thing like landing a plane and flight control and turn it into a fun and addictive game that isn’t complex at all.

Flight Control is an innovative game that started the entire line drawing genre trend.  It is wildly simple but highly addictive and it has sold over 3 million copies.

Evernote (Free)

Without a doubt, Evernote is a must have iPad app for anyone that likes capturing ideas.  It should be in the Hall Of Fame because it is so well designed and so well organized that anyone can use it without even thinking about it.

Evernote makes organizing all your information very easy. It literally turns your iPad in a productive machine that is an extension of your brain.

With Evernote you get a great app for organizing notes, ideas, snapshots, and recordings which is then instantly synced between your free online account, iPhone and iPad.

Shazam (Free)

There is no denying that this is one of the coolest apps to hit the store ever.  It has a “magical” ability to recognize and identify just about any song you are listening to.  No matter where you are, Shazam is useful.  I have tried to fool this app with some really complicated songs but it never ceases to amaze me.

The really nice thing about the app is that it doesn’t just identify a song, it lets you learn all about the artist, their work, and even lyrics (for some songs).

The really amazing thing about Shazam is that it can pick up a song from across the room quite well.  I have tried it out in various places and it always seems to “just work”. It is definitely a must-have if even for the novelty of watching it identify music by simply “listening”.

Shazam

Plants Vs. Zombies ($9.99)

Another iPad must have app that is a game.  PopCap Games has been making amazing products for quite some time and they certainly deserve to be in the Hall of Fame for this one.  Plants vs. Zombies is one of those “cult” hits that you can’t deny is addictive.

The idea is simple.  A mob of zombies is about to invade your home so naturally you use your arsenal of zapping plants to kill them.  The logo for the game says it all, “Get ready to soil your pants!”

The reason this game made the hall of fame is that it is definitely updated frequently, they keep it the same and add only where necessary and it’s just a lot of pure fun.

Pandora (Free)

What would I do without Pandora? I’d be lost.  It’s a must have iPad app that will become your best friend in no time.  Ever since this amazing music service hit the internet I’ve been hooked.  It’s the ultimate way to not only listen to music but discover new music.

With Pandora you get 40 hours of music streaming free per month.  And the really great part about it is that you can have a seemingly endless supply of play lists which follow you everywhere.  I actually use this in my car, at home via Sonos, and while writing articles (such as this one).

When Pandora added in the “Genres” section it was great because now I can find my favorite 80′s music or whatever else suits my mood.

This, along with Evernote and Angry Birds lives right on my iPad for the forseeable future.

Simplenote (Free)

One of the reasons this app is a must have iPad app is due to the fact that its so super easy to use.  Simplenote leaves nothing out. You can use it to keep notes, lists, ideas and more.  Your notes automatically sync with your computer and all your devices.  It’s extremely easy to use!

Ironically, Simplenote is also extremely flexible and because of that you can use it for almost anything.  The best way to use it is to get the app, sign up online (free) and start creating notes!  Then, all your notes will begin syncing and it becomes an app you can’t do without.

The free version does have some ads but you can do a one-time upgrade to get rid of them. Either way, this is the way notes should always be done!

Simplenote

Twitter (Free)

With all of the iPad twitter apps out there you would think that it would be hard to induct just one into the hall of fame, but the official twitter app for the iPad is a definite must have.  It was originally known as tweetie but it has since been renamed Twitter and it is their official app.

It includes all of the usual twitter iPad app features but it does so in a minimal, clean way.  You can sign up for Twitter right within the app and best of all it’s free.

No one was quite sure how this app would perform due to all of the other great Twitter apps but it has quickly become a huge hit and thus earned its spot into the Hall of Fame.

Twitter

Instapaper ($4.99)

Another must have iPad app that deserves its place into the coveted Hall of Fame.  Instapaper is a relentlessly useful app for anyone that wants to save something to read for a later time.  It easily and quickly keeps track of web pages you want to read and converts them into a mobile friendly version.

The draw with Instapaper is the fact that the app can be on any of your devices and is available as plugins for browsers like Safari and Firefox, making it possible to share all your important reading in one single location from any device.

It’s also nice that it’s completely free and there is no complicated login process.  On the website, you can even setup folders to store and organize your reading.

Use this app once and you will not even wonder why it made the Hall of Fame.

So there are all the apps that made the very first Hall of Fame.  Which ones do you think belong here or do not belong here?

Any you would like to see in the next Hall of Fame?
