On occasion, users of the iPhone and the iPad and to a less degree the iPod Touch forget that one of the truly big draws of the iDevices is that they are portable devices that can provide all sorts of benefits to the man or woman on the go. And one of those benefits is the use of the Dictionary. Here’s how it just got better.
Dictionary.com App For iPad Has Plenty Of New Features
The iPad and iPhone can actually be used as a self contained office if you have the right apps downloaded to you device. You can write emails and memos, browse the web in order to do a little research, and even play a few games when a coffee break comes around. But one thing that most people will forget they need is a traveling dictionary, and in the day and age of Google, most people forget just how useful having a dictionary with you is. Some iDevice users will simply use the Dictionary.com website to look up a word or phrase, but they do not actually need to go to those lengths.
Dictionary.com offers an iPad and iPhone app that has two different versions, both a free version and one that can be had for a paltry $2.99 (at least this week). The recently updated 2.0 version of the Dictionary app has quite a load of new features that includes not only basic definitions but also features a word of the day, a Spanish word of the day and question of the day and something called the Hot Word of the day.
Perhaps the coolest new feature is the voice to text feature that is included in both the free and the paid app. This particular feature is great for the users on the go who can’t stop and type out an entire word. Simply tap the “Voice” button and say the word you are looking for, the app will come back with several choices if it doesn’t “understand” you and you can then choose the word you were looking for. This feature of course also sets the app apart from the regular Dictionary.com website.
Note: The voice to text feature is currently only available on the iPhone version of the app. Hopefully the iPad version will get it soon. However, you CAN install the iPhone app on your iPad and use the feature, just realize it will be in the 2X mode!

Sounds like a really useful app. Would also like it to be able to speak words for correct pronounciation.
