Here’s some great news folks. Within the next few days you will be able to edit your Google Docs right on your iPad. And there is no app needed for this. Google issued a press release and some demos of the ability to edit all your Google docs right on the iPad.
Edit Google Docs On Your iPad
Google says that their new documents editor will now allow you to edit documents on your mobile device. They claim the following benefits:
- You can work on that important memo…while on the bus or train to work.
- If you’re behind on a group proposal, but really want to make it to the ball game tonight, your whole team can work on it from the bleacher seats.
- You can take minute-by-minute notes at a concert so you’ll always remember the setlist. And your friends can jealously follow in real-time at home.
All you have to do from your browser on the iPad is go to http://docs.google.com and select the document you wan to edit, press the edit button and you will be able to make changes.
Below is a video from the press release. I use Google Docs a lot and I’m glad to see this feature added (finally). After the announcement, I got out my trusty iPad and sure enough I could edit my Google Docs. Be aware, however, that it is only basic editing. Very basic. Hopefully Google will add more functionality in the future but if you are in a hurry and need to make some simple edits then this is going to make you very happy.
For the best Google Doc Editing, Documents 2 Go is still the winner. Time will tell if Google keeps adding features or if this will just remain a very basic doc editor.
Below is a snazzy video from Google showing the feature. I can’t decide whether to get up and dance or watch the video:
Have you used the new Google Doc Editing feature? What are your impressions?
