Paper Desk

Create Your Own Digital Notebook Via Your iPad

PaperDesk is a fantastic app for the iPad that allows users to create digital notebooks from scratch on their iPad. Yet this isn’t all that you can do with the application, there are many features and interesting options for you to play around with and we feel that this app is a little more special than a lot of the other notebook apps in the Pad app store.

When you open up the PaperDesk app for the first time, you will actually be presented with an empty wooden desk. This may come as a shock to a lot of people as with other notebook apps for the iPad you are usually presented with an empty notebook or a blank sheet of paper. But don’t worry, everything is in order, to get started and create your very first notebook all you need to do is to tap the “new documents icon that is located in the upper right hand corner of the desk, doing this will bring up the dialogue for creating a new notebook. As you would imagine, each notebook can have a unique title, however each notebook can also be one of five different colours, which is a nice little feature.

When you have created your notebook, you can start taking notes immediately either in freehand text or by typing using the iPad’s on screen keyboard. This offers a lot of freedom and will give you many options to enable your notebook to look how you would like it to. One of the great features of this app is that it is possible to change the type of paper that you are writing on at any point. The default paper is

a traditional white ruled paper that has blue lines and a red margin line, however, you can change this to many types of paper including graph paper, plain paper or yellow legal paper. One of the best features in this app is that as well as giving you the ability to create notebooks, you can also use the app to turn your iPad into a whiteboard. Now, because the iPad has VGA-out capabilities, it is possible to connect your device to a projector with the dock connector and start scribbling away. This is a great feature and is extremely useful if you are teaching a class or presenting your ideas to a roomful of co-workers.

Overall, this is a fine app that will come in very useful to a lot of people, especially teachers and business people. It is also great however, for people that just need to take notes, whether it is at work or just for themselves in order to remember something. This app is actually available in both the full version from the app store and a Lite version. The Lite version is free, although it does limit each notebook to being 3 pages long, but it is a good way to test the app for yourself before you purchase the full version.
