Untethered iOS 4.2 iPad Jailbreak Confirmed

Apparently we are going to see an untethered iOS 4.2 iPad jailbreak soon (and likely before Christmas).  The brains behind the reverse engineering of iOS 4.2, known affectionately as “comex” answered a request today on Twitter that confirms he is indeed going to release his hacks for the untethered version of iOS 4.2.1.  This means that everyone who has been waiting to jailbreak their iOS 4.2.1 iPad untethered will be able to do that real soon.

In case you did not know, an untethered jailbreak is the most desirable form of jailbreaking since it does not require a computer to “bootstrap” the iPad into a jailbroken state (tethered).

Is ‘an untethered iOS 4.2 iPad jailbreak soon (and likely before Christmas).’ available yet? Anxiously waiting.

If I go the ‘tethered’ version now and then later want to upgrade to the ‘untethered’ (once available), do you see any downsides? Thanks.

Yes, you can do the Tethered Jailbreak now and when the UNtethered comes out you will be able to do that also.
