Long before all of the current blockbusters of the past few decades where were some really great movies produced. They kind of get lost in the shuffle, but, if you are ready to discover and explore some of the best (and interesting) classic movies then you might want to check out this app which lets you watch hundreds of movies for about the same price as a latte.
Where else but on the iPad could you spend $4.99 and have access to an entire vault of movies to watch? Movie Vault takes you on a trip back in time allowing you to discover classic movies and TV shows from some really amazing directors. This is some seriously great stuff here and proves that our world of media consumption is definitely changing.
Movie Vault is the perfect discovery app and a perfect way to enjoy classic movies on your iPad. You can watch various movies from genre’s such as Science Fiction with movies by Bela Lugosi and Vincent Price. In the Western genre you can watch John Wayne and Roy Rogers in their prime. And lets not leave out the Comedy genre with the likes of Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Abbott & Costello.
The interface of this classic movies iPad app is very nicely done. It’s not just a list of movies. It is a virtual movieshelf the likes of the iBooks interface. And each movie has the original artwork so it feels just like browsing in a video store. When you select a movie you also get all of the information including:
- Description
- Original release date
- Writers
- Actors
- Duration
Watching the movie is fantastic. It starts right up (over Wi-Fi/3G) and within moments you are watching the movie. No extra costs, fees, or anything to subscribe to. This is a perfect example of media consumption.
Other uses? How about letting your kids discover some of the great classic movies? They may not have all of the special effects and graphics, but they are still great examples of good acting and directing. Another great use is a rainy day or a weekend of downtime. How about the next Holiday coming up? Perhaps your grandparents might enjoy some of these movies as well.
I’m a huge fan of older movies and this app caught my eye, plus the developers of this have obviously put an immense amount of time and effort into it – and it shows. I also like the fact that once you buy the app, you get access to the entire vault of movies. It’s refreshing and cheap entertainment. These guys over at Fling Soft have a clear winner here.

I just got the Movie Vault app and I can’t put it down. There are so many movies on there my wife actually took the ipad away from me and she now has lined up a bunch of movies to watch as well. She watches the movies in the kitchen and walks around with the ipad while making dinner, pretty cool stuff.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah. I agree it’s super cool that there are so many movies and it’s not like the other movie apps where you have to subscribe or buy each one!!!
As a certifiable movie geek, I’m heading over to app store right now to buy this one. Thanks for the tip!
Rosemary. Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, I will say that I’m really impressed that you get them all for one price. The other nice thing is the selection. If you like old classics and generally great directors there’s a few gems in there.
I love older movies and now I need to find the time to watch them all
Is anyone else having problems with resolution? I am thrilled this app exists, but the resolution is ‘t so hot. or is this just because it’s streaming vs being downloaded and saved?
Hi mimi. Thanks for the comment. I think that the main issue is streaming vs saved but also it could be the speed of the network. I tried on 3G and it was pretty fuzzy…but then on wifi, not too bad.
I did let one download for awhile and then played it and that really worked well too..I have to say that the collection they have is amazing!
Hi there,
Can you connect the device (ipod, ipad et al) to TV and watch the Movie Vault flicks on the big(ger) screen?
Or are you doomed to enjoy the films on the small screens?
I tried with the apple composite cable, but I can only get the audio from my TV, no image.
Help. anyone?
Thanx,
J.
