Weather 4D for iPad equips you with a decent amount of global weather knowledge at whatever time you care to check it. The Weather 4D for iPad itself is easy to use – simply choose your region, and it’ll download the relevant information. Once this has been selected, you can go into the orbit mode to spin the globe, although unfortunately it’ll only display the weather and temperatures in the region that you’ve picked, which, as a result, renders this a fun but fruitless exercise.
You can zoom into the towns and cities when you’ve selected your area of choice, and in the process take a closer look at the weather in the region. Pressing ‘Play’ will fast-forward the clock in order for you to see how the conditions will develop during the rest of the week. Meanwhile, the time mode means that you can speed up or rewind time at the touch of a button (or a drag of your finger across the screen), allowing you to check out the week’s forecast.
While we have no real complaints about the usability of the Weather 4D for iPad itself – the menus are clear and the Globe function is easy to get to grips whit – we do have a bit of an issue with the price. At over three pounds, its recommended retail price seems pretty steep; especially when you consider that much of this information could be obtained from many other apps for free. Although you don’t get a spinnable globe with those, mind.
While there’s no doubt it’s useful, and the spinnable globe works well, it’s nevertheless a pricey app.
