Windows 8 Released: The Re-Creation of Windows for Tablets

While the full operating system is not fully released, we have seen that Windows 8 is already available in the market. It was released as ‘the re-creation of Windows’ and not as Windows 8.The operating system was launched as an operating system for tablets that can also work on desktops and laptops. This is certainly not would most of us would have expected. The operating system was officially launched at the BUILD conference in California, September 13. Obviously, because Windows and Microsoft was falling so far behind in the tablet market, they decided it was time to push out the operating system as soon as possible. Here are some of the important issues related to the ‘Re-Creation of Windows’.

Tablet OS.Tablets have become very popular with students and professionals alike. Obviously, this is the reason why Microsoft has launched the OS as an OS for tablets that works on desktops and laptops too. This means those students in business courses, marketing courses, and the like can use affordable tablets instead of costly laptops and desktops as they study. We all know Microsoft is the biggest choice for business, while students are choosing the iPad and the Chromebook for different reasons.

Speed.Microsoft also launched the ‘Metro’ interface, which we had seen in the very unsuccessful Windows phone. Windows 8, as we expected was based around a touch-screen centric operating system. If it can run on a tablet, it can run on a phone. The system proved to be much faster than previous operating systems because of a lowered memory footprint. It is said the operating system operates just as fast, if not faster than iOS.

App Store. The existence of an App Store for Apple and Apps available from Google has meant more than just a convenient place for applications. It has also meant you know you have a safe place to get applications for your computer or tablet. The Windows App store is following in the footsteps of Apple – the only way they could really go.

Mobile Computing. Mobile computing is the way of the future. We have seen Apple take a huge chunk of the market because of the popularity of the iPhone, and then the iPad. The Windows 8 download and its makers, Microsoft has learnt some very important lessons from this.

Laptops have essentially replaced desktops in most cases. We only see them being used in offices, and we all know the main reason is because managers and owners don’t want their computers moving around. In more progressive companies, laptops have long replaced desktops. While laptops are mobile, they are still not as mobile as phones and tablets. They take some time to set up, and they take time to boot up. Now that Microsoft has a system that will bring some compatibility to phones and their operating system, we might finally see consumers other than Apple users, using their phones in conjunction with their computers. The next few months is going to get very interesting.
